The office of Gov. Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that California's chief executive is being treated for prostate cancer.

Dr. Eric Small, Brown’s oncologist at UC San Francisco, said in a statement that the governor is undergoing a short course of "conventional radiotherapy."

"Fortunately, this is early stage localized prostate cancer," Small said. "The prognosis is excellent, and there are not expected to be any significant side effects.”
